ANDERSON, S.C. -- Crystal Gaffney scored two goals and Megan Delancey had two assists to lead Anderson University to a 4-1 victory over Converse in a CVAC women's match Wednesday night at Smethers Field. Anderson snaps a two-match losing streak and improves its record to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the CVAC. Converse now stands at 2-6, 1-5. "This was our first conference victory and we're excited about that," said Anderson head coach Abby Crumpton. "Crystal stepped up today and played smarter and more aggressive." Gaffney scored Anderson's first goal at the 4:40 mark off a cross from Allison Patton. The Lady Trojans increased their lead to 2-0 at 29:43 when Clary McCord intercepted a clearing attempt by a Converse defender and put the ball in the back of the net. Gaffney tallied her second goal at 32:55 when a shot by Delancey was mishandled by Converse goalkeeper Kaitlyn Price. Price stopped the shot but was not able to collect the ball. Gaffney scrambled after the loose ball and scored. Converse broke up the shutout with just 19 seconds remaining in the first half. Samantha Chapman sent a long ball down the center to set up a breakaway for Sarah Schiff. Anderson's fourth goal came off a restart at at 62:49. Delancey touched the ball to Rachel Claypool, who drilled a 20-yard shot into the net. Anderson outshot Converse, 22-6.
