Men’s Soccer Defeats Flagler to Move to 2-0

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University men's soccer continued its solid play defeating nonconference opponent Flagler, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

After a scoreless opening half, Anderson broke the scoring drought when senior Brad Du Plooy served a perfect ball downfield to sophomore Gabriel Homem who drilled it past the keeper from 30 yards out at the 46:54 mark.

Goalie Devon Ashy fended off two shots on goal from an aggressive Saints offence over the next 25 minutes until Anderson was called for a foul inside the goal box giving Flagler a penalty kick. Flagler's Rostand Essomba found the back of the net at the 70:24 mark to draw the match to a 1-1 tie.

With the match all square, freshmen Austin Fain and Landon Goodman connected with Goodman putting the ball in the back of the net for the game winner at the 86:19 mark. Fain recorded his first assist as a Trojan while also seeing 51 minutes of action. Goodman's goal marks his first wearing the Black and Gold uniform.
