Men’s Soccer Defeats Lees-McRae in Double Overtime Thriller

ANDERSON, S.C. – Despite the five year hiatus between Anderson and Lees-McRae men's soccer programs, the heated competition was as great as ever Thursday night with the Trojans snapping a four match losing streak after defeating the Bobcats, 2-1, in double overtime at Tate Field in Banner Elk, N.C.

The Bobcats found the back of the net at the 11:22 mark in the first half on a goal by junior Thomas Deeley. The score remained 1-0 until Anderson's senior Brad Du Plooy's free kick landed in the goalie's hands and he stepped back over the line to tie the match at 1-1 with 18:52 remaining in regulation.

During the second overtime, the Black and Gold notched the golden goal when junior Josh Calabria found the back of the net following a free kick from 7 yards out with 7:38 on the clock.

Anderson will be back in action on Saturday to open up play at home against nonconference opponent Flagler. Kick-off at Trojan Stadium is set from 2 p.m.
