Trojans Battle Queens to a 2-2 Double Overtime Draw

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team has fought hard the entire season with today's match being no different. The Black and Gold battled Queens to the very end resulting in a 2-2 double overtime draw in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday afternoon.

The draw moves the Trojans to 5-5-3 overall and 1-5-3 in conference play while Queens played its first even match of its season resulting in a 6-6-1 overall record and 3-5-1 in the SAC.

Queens answered first in the opening half scoring in the 13th minute on goal by the Royals leading goal scorer, Ryan Ejezie. The Trojans answered back in the 25 minute on a perfectly placed pass to freshman Magnus Einarsson scoring his second goal of his career to knot the match at 1-1.

The Royals took another one goal lead in the 61st minute with Ejezie scoring his second goal of the match and ninth of the season. After just missing a great scoring opportunity, senior Brad Du Plooy drilled a ball from 24 yards away to score the equalizer in the 76th minute. Trojan teammates Ryo Ogawa and Timmo Herrmann teamed up to get the ball on the foot of Du Plooy allowing him the opportunity to score his fourth goal of the season.

Anderson kept the pressure on Queens outshooting the Royals 4-2 in the final 14 minutes and 26-22 for the match, but couldn't end the match with a golden goal.

The 2-2 draw was the Trojans third tie in their last four matches.

Anderson returns to action when it hits the road for a SAC match against Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. at the LMU Soccer Complex.
