Trojans Send Seniors Out With a Win Over Mars Hill; 2-0

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team sent its seniors out with a 2-0 home win over South Atlantic Conference opponent Mars Hill on Saturday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

With the victory, the Trojans move above the .500 mark for the season with a 7-6-3 overall record and a 2-6-3 record in conference play while the Lions end their regular season with a 6-9-1 overall record and 4-6-1 in SAC action.

In a season that saw the Trojans only lose one match by more than a goal and hold a 2-1-3 record during the six double-overtime matches they played, it was a much cherished victory by the Black and Gold.

Anderson outshot Mars Hill 21-11 for the match with six shots coming on goal.

After peppering the Lions keeper with three straight shots, freshman Shinya Nagata was able to connect with sophomore Cameron Emerson for the punch in from 10 yards out to give the Black and Gold a 1-0 lead at the 33rd minute. The Trojans were able to keep the pressure on taking four more shots before the half.

The Lions best chance to even the match came on a one on one opportunity at the 78 minute when River Naisang sized up the goal, but senior keeper Devon Ashy made a huge save to preserve the 1-0 lead.

The Black and Gold continued their onslaught of shots when freshman Myles Duncan was able to squirt the pass through the defense to senior Brad Du Plooy who kicked it in from six yards out. The goal came in the 82nd minute and was Du Plooy's fifth of the season, ultimately putting the match away.
