ANDERSON, S.C. -- Clint Neville' two-run blast to left gave Anderson an 11-9 victory over Augusta State on the Trojans' Senior Night Tuesday at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Trailing 9-8 in the eighth inning, Derek Hipp started the Trojan rally with a lead-off single. Hipp moved to third on a botched pickoff attempt and scored when Matt Hill reached on an error to tie the game at 9. After a strikeout for the second out of the inning, Neville, one of five seniors honored for the Trojans, provided the game winner. Augusta State got on the scoreboard in the first on an RBI single by David Barnes to make it 1-0. Anderson answered with two runs in the second on an RBI double by Matt Hill and a run-scoring single by Neville RBI single to make it 2-1 in favor of Anderson. Augusta Stated exploded for five runs in the second. The big hit in the inning was a three-run homer by Shannon Wilkerson. Trailing 6-2, the Trojans notched one run in the third when senior Patrick West tripled and scored. After trading runs in the fourth to make the score 7-4, the Trojans scored four runs in the fifth on six singles, highlighted by a Neville RBI single, to take an 8-7 lead. Augusta State regained the lead in the eighth with two runs on two hits and a Trojan error. Jordan Oates earned the win for the Trojans, and Cory Welch picked up the save. Jacob Watson took the loss for Augusta State. Anderson was led offensively by West, who was 3-for-5 with a triple, and by Neville, who was 3-for-5 with the game-winning home run. Augusta State was led by Kevin Owens, who had three hits in five at bats including two doubles. The Trojans honored five seniors before the game: West, Ryan Grubbs, Ed Johnson, Don Ballard and Neville. The victory ends Anderson's regular season at 19-35. Augusta State now stands at 25-22. Anderson's next action is in the Conference Carolinas Tournament at Wilson, N.C. The Trojans will face Pfeiffer at 7 p.m. Thursday.
