ANDERSON, S.C. -- A line-drive double play ended an Anderson University rally in the second game to give Barton a sweep of the Trojans in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader Saturday at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Barton won the first game, 21-8 and the second game, 6-4. In the first game, Brandon Sneed hit for the cycle and drove in three runs to lead the Bulldogs to a 21-8 victory. Sneed hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth to complete the cycle. Sam Pepper and Jonathan Nichols had three hits apiece for Barton. Barton led 7-3 through four innings then put nine runs on the board in the fifth. Pepper had a three-run triple and Nichols had a three-run home run to highlight the fifth for the Bulldogs. Derek Hipp and Ryan Saxon led the Anderson offense in the first game. Hipp was 4-for-6 with two RBI and Saxon was 3-for-5. Barton had 21 hits in the first game to Anderson's 15. Both teams committed six errors in windy and brutally cold conditions. In the second game, Barton took a 6-2 lead into the seventh and then held on for a 6-4 victory. The Bulldogs used two singles, two walks, a hit batter, and a ground out to score three runs in the third to take a 4-1 lead. Three singles, a hit batter, and a two-out, two-run double by Allen Corbett increased the Barton lead to 6-1 in the fifth. Trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Anderson loaded the bases on a double by Kirkland, an error, and a walk. A single by Alex Roberson cut the Barton lead to 6-4 and a walk put the tying run on base. But the Anderson rally on a strikeout and a line-drive double play to end the game. Barton outhit Anderson, 9-8 in the second game. Barton improves to 14-11 overall and 4-4 in the conference. Anderson, which has lost eight straight, drops to 5-21, 1-7.
