AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Shannon Wilkerson hit a grand slam to highlight a six-run sixth inning and lead Augusta State to a 16-5 victory over Anderson University at Jaguar Field Tuesday afternoon. With the win the Jags improve to 6-6 on the season, while the loss drops the Trojans to 3-11. ASU jumped out on top in the first inning with two runs off of three hits started by senior Kevin Owens. Freshman Bryson Smith drove in an RBI in the second bringing the score to 3-0. Anderson got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Andrew Davis hit a two-run double to bring in Andrew Johnson and Clint Neville to cut the Augusta State lead to 3-2. The Jags scored six more runs in the sixth inning when Bryson Smith hit a two-run double to center field. With Tyler Marzofka, Bryson Smith and Kevin Owens on base, Wilkerson hit his grand slam. Marzofka added a two-run homer in the seventh inning to bring the score to 11-2. The Trojans answered back in the top of the eighth inning with a home run by Clint Neville and a two-run homer by Trent Still. The Jags score five more runs in the bottom of the eighth. A two-run double by Alex Sickman followed by a RBI and unearned run from Justin Roberts and another unearned run by Alex Walker increase the Augusta State lead to 16-5. Brandon Iverson received the win for the Jags, pitching 2.1 innings giving up only two hits. The Jags had six pitching changes with no pitcher giving up more then two hits. David Richardson got the loss for Anderson pitching 5.1 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs.
