ANDERSON, S.C. -- Southern Wesleyan scored five runs in the top of eighth inning and went on to post a 13-9 victory over Anderson University in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Southern Wesleyan, 10-3 overall, was led by Kevin Brown, who drove in six runs with a three-run homer, a two-run triple, and a sacrifice fly. Brown's three-run homer in the third gave the Warriors a 5-2 lead. But Anderson scored three runs in the fourth to take a 6-5 lead. Patrick West provided a two-run single and Derek Hipp had an RBI single. The Warriors tied the game at 6 in the fifth on a triple by Kody Hightower and a sacrifice fly by Brown. A pair of RBI doubles by Dillon Schupp and Josh Dawalt gave Southern Wesleyan an 8-6 lead in the seventh. But Anderson, 3-12 overall, bounced back with three runs in the home half of the seventh for a 9-8 lead. The big hit in the inning was a two-run homer by Clint Neville. The Warriors sent nine batters to the plate in the eighth and scored five runs. Brown's two-run triple gave the Warriors the lead for good. Anderson was led by Neville, Matt Hill, and Don Ballard who all had two hits apiece. Neville drove in three runs. Southern Wesleyan had 15 hits, while Anderson finished the game with 11. Jason Garner allowed no hits and no runs in 1 2/3 innings to pick up the victory for the Warriors. Garner struck out four and walked just one. Anderson plays host to Shippensburg (Pa.) this weekend. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
