Braves Sweep Trojans

ANDERSON, S.C. -- UNC Pembroke hit five triples and had two home runs in the second game on its way to an 11-4 victory and a sweep of Anderson University Saturday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. In the first game, UNC-Pembroke used a six-run sixth inning to take a 9-3 lead over the Trojans and went on to post a 14-7 victory. In the second game, the Braves used a six-run third inning to snap a tie at 1. Anderson added one run in the fifth and sixth but could not muster a comeback. Jason Coker hit a two-run homer in the seven to extend the Brave lead to 11-3. Kevin Dietrich led UNC Pembroke in the second game with three hits in five trips, including two triples, and three runs scored. Morales was 3-for-4, including the two-run blast. Edmond Locklear contributed a two-run triple in the third. Derek Hipp, Matt Hill and Trent Still all had two hits apiece for Anderson in the second game. Tyler Wood was the winner in the second game, while Brady Peele took the loss. In the first game, UNC Pembroke sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth, and used Ryan Gatham's two-run double in the inning to open up the game. Blair Carson hit his first home run of the year -- a solo blast off the scoreboard in left in the first inning to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead, but in the top of the second, Josh Bentley answered for the Braves a solo blast down the left field line. Anderson scored two unearned runs in the second and one in the third to take a 4-3 lead and held the lead until UNC-Pembroke took control in the sixth. Anderson was committed four errors in the first game. The Trojans were led in the first game by Carson, who was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI, and by B.J. Smith, who was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a home run. Bentley led UNC-Pembroke at the plate in the first by going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI, and Gatham contributed by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Chris Pitts took the loss in the first game for the Trojans, while Jon Rivera earned the win for UNC-Pembroke. UNC Pembroke is 2-0, while Anderson stands at 0-2. The two teams will wrap up the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m.
