Anderson Volleyball Announces Six Signees in 2024 Class

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Head Coach Todd Hay and the Anderson University volleyball program have announced the addition of six signees that will join the team in the fall as part of the 2024 recruiting class. The volleyball team has come off of its best season in history and the team will look to its current team members and these incoming freshman to build upon that success for years to come.

Mia Bennett - 5'7" - Setter

High School: High Point Academy

Hometown:  Boiling Springs, S.C.

Parents:  Ryan and Tara Bennett

Club:  Stars Volleyball Club in Spartanburg, S.C.

Coach Hay's Comments: "Mia is a quick, athletic setter that has played at a high level for several years.  She makes good decisions when setting and can also play a strong defensive back row.  She is able to run variety of tempos and will fit in well with our style of play.  We are looking forward to having Mia join us next fall."

Mya Brown - 6'0" - Middle

High School: Central Cabarrus High School

Hometown:  Concord, N.C.

Parents:  Eugene and Heather Brown

Club:  Carolina Juniors Volleyball Club in Charlotte, N.C.

Coach Hay's Comments: "Mya is an athletic middle that is very strong behind the setter off one foot.  She has a good vertical and can hit a variety of shots in front of the setter.   I was impressed with her competitive spirit and drive to help her team succeed.  I know our fans will love watching Mya on the court."

Mia Elder - 6'1" - Right Side / Opposite

High School: Hoggard High School

Hometown:  Leland, N.C.

Parent:  Greg Elder

Club:  East Coast Volleyball Academy in Wilmington, N.C.

Coach Hay's Comments: "Mia is an extremely driven and competitive athlete on the court.  She has strong vertical jump and a powerful attack.  She loves working hard to get a block and can also play well in the back row.  It's a lot of fun to watch her fire up her teammates after a great play."

Jacey Olsen -  6'0" - Outside Hitter

High School: Pinecrest High School

Hometown:  Aberdeen, N.C.

Parents:  Jeff and Jessica Olsen

Club:  Triangle Volleyball Club in Raleigh, N.C.

Coach Hay's Comments: "We were blessed to find both Jacey and Mia E. at the same event last spring.  Jacey is a member of the "10 Ft approach touch club" and has a strong arm to go with that.  She can play all 6 rotations and is a hard worker on the block. We will need her added depth on the outside attacking position."

Tara Wheeler - 5'6" -  DS/L

High School: Bob Jones Academy

Hometown:  Greenville, S.C.

Parents:  John and Kelly Wheeler

Club:  Stars Volleyball Club in Spartanburg, S.C.

Coach Hay's Comments: "Tara is a good all-around defensive player with an excellent platform on serve-receive.  She will add immediate depth to the back line.  She has a very good volleyball IQ and always seems to be in the right place at the right time.   She is the younger sister of outgoing senior Tabitha Wheeler so it's great to be able to keep the family tradition alive."

Maura Kindel - 6'0" - Middle

High School: Powdersville High School

Hometown:  Easley, S.C.

Parents:  Curt and Heather Kindel

Club:  Caroline One Volleyball Club in Greenville, S.C.

Coach Hays' Comments: "Maura is a strong middle attacker that loves to work hard and play hard.  She has a good vertical and moves well laterally.  She can attack well behind the setter off one foot or in front off the traditional approach.  Her opposing high school coaches always spoke very highly of her and how hard she was to defend.  Her parents both teach in the AU School of Physical Therapy so it's awesome to keep her in the AU family."
