Win Streak Stretches to Double-Digits with 3-0 Sweep of Lions

ANDERSON, S.C. – Stretching their current win streak into the double digits, the Anderson University women's volleyball team turned in their tenth straight win with a 3-0 sweep of Mars Hill on Tuesday, October 24 in the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson was led by senior Tabitha Wheeler (Greenville, S.C.) who posted a team high 11 kills while senior Rylie Sargent (Greer, S.C.) was just off her pace with nine of her own. Sophomore Katy Smith (Fleming Island, Fla.) led the team with 13 digs with senior Jenna Long (Clearwater, Fla.) posting a team high 36 assists in the contest.

Jumping out an early 3-0 lead, the Trojans were able to pull away in the early goings extending their advantage out to 7-3. However, a four-point streak from the Lions brought the set back level at seven. The two teams traded points back and forth until the Trojans were able to rattle off a four-point streak of their own to bring their advantage to 16-11. While Anderson continued to lead at 20-14, the Lions clawed back into the set as they outscored the Trojans by a 9-4 clip over the next stretch. However, just one swing later from senior Jaelyn Grimm (Cedar Park, Texas) found the Trojans taking the first set 25-23.

Mars Hill was able to take the advantage in the early goings of the second set at 3-1 before Anderson posted a ten-point streak on the back of four service aces from sophomore Savannah Cox (Simpsonville, S.C.) to take over the lead at 11-3. While Mars Hill was able to score nine more points over the course of the rest of the set, the Trojans finished out the second set with the 25-12 victory.

Mars Hill again saw the lead in the third set fade away in the early goings from a strong Anderson offense as the Lions led 5-4 the Trojans answered with a three-point streak to take over the lead. That was the last time the Lions would be in the lead in the contest as the Trojans were able to post a pair of four-point runs in the late goings of the set before trading points with the Lions, closing out the match with a 25-19 win in the third set.

The Trojans hit the road later this week as they make the trip to Wingate, N.C. to take on the Bulldogs of Wingate University for a 7:00 p.m. first serve.
