ANDERSON, S.C. - Looking for its first winning streak of the season, Anderson University women's soccer returns to its South Atlantic Conference schedule on Saturday as its hosts Lincoln Memorial for Homecoming. Kickoff from Trojan Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
The Trojans
Anderson came away with a 1-0 victory over Emmanuel last
time out as freshman Tera Dolan notched her second goal of the
season in the 18th minute to give AU the 1-0 victory. With the
goal, Dolan became one of six players to have two or more goals on
the season as she is now tied for second on the team with freshmen
Helena Moore, Emily Perez and Madison Taylor. Senior Krystal Goss
and redshirt sophomore Faith Johannes continue to lead the team in
the category with three apiece. Goss also leads the team in assists
with four.
Defensively, senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Neipp claimed her third complete clean sheet on Wednesday, giving her 19.4 shutouts for her career. Neipp currently ranks ninth in SAC history for most career shutouts.
Entering Saturday's contest, AU is tied with Carson-Newman for eighth place and the final spot for a berth into the SAC Tournament. The Trojans and the Eagles are deadlocked with seven points, three points behind seventh-place team, Catawba.
The Lady Railsplitters
Lincoln Memorial is currently in a tie for second-place in
the SAC standings, drawing even with Newberry with 15 points. The
duo is just two points behind conference leaders Lenoir-Rhyne and
Wingate, with L-R playing one less match than the Bulldogs. LMU's
five wins on the year matches the conference's best, as it is
currently +12 in goal differential on the season.
The Lady Railsplitters are winners of three of their last five, including key conference wins over Brevard (3-0) and Queens (2-0). Freshman Michelle Hunter has made a name for herself, leading the team in goals with seven on the season. Hunter is followed by junior Nicole McKinney and sophomore Olivia Thompson who have six and five goals, respectively. McKinney leads the team in the shots category with 47, as 22 have been on goal.
Sophomore Kayla Stephens has been the workhorse for the Lady Railsplitters, starting in every match. Stephens matches LMU's overall record of 7-4-1 and holds 4.2 shutouts. The sophomore's 1.00 goals against average ranks fourth in the conference.
The Series
Anderson is seeking its first win over Lincoln Memorial
since joining the SAC in 2010. In last season's meeting, the teams
were unable to find a goal as they settled for a scoreless
draw.
