ANDERSON, S.C. - Freshman Helena Moore deflected a senior Krystal Goss free kick into the Newberry net in the 70th minute, but the goal was not enough to mount a comeback as Anderson University women's soccer fell to the Wolves, 4-1, Wednesday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

Moore recorded her second goal of the season, as AU dropped to 2-5-4 overall and suffered its first South Atlantic Conference loss of the season, falling to 1-1-4. Newberry adds its fourth conference win of the season after netting three second half goals, including back-to-back tallies in the 67th and 68th minute by Gabrielle Broadie and Rachael Jonas, respectively.

Jonas opened the scoring in the opening half right on the 40-minute mark as she lobbed a shot over Anderson goalkeeper Sadie Lancaster's head from around 40 yards from goal. The goal was Jonas' first of the season as she would later add her second goal in the final half.

Leading the Trojans in shots was Moore, redshirt sophomore Faith Johannes and freshman Emily Perez who each tallied three shots for the afternoon. Moore troubled Newberry goalkeeper Rebecca Darley twice, as the NC defense kept Goss, AU's leading goal scorer, off balance for the majority of the match. Despite the 4-1 score line, Anderson outshot the Wolves, 15-13.

Defensively, Lancaster finished the match with two saves, but suffered her first loss in a Trojan uniform after making her collegiate debut on Sunday at Tusculum.

"Newberry did very well to finish their opportunities from distance," head coach Samar Azem said. "I need to do better at preparing our group for games and we will move on and build from this."

The Trojans continue SAC play on Saturday when they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
