ANDERSON, S.C. - Looking to snap a three-match winless streak, the Anderson University women's soccer team returns to its South Atlantic Conference schedule on Sunday, Oct. 6 when it heads to Tusculum. Kickoff from Pioneer Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Trojans
Anderson enters Sunday as one of just four teams that are unbeaten
in conference play, as the Trojans carry a 1-0-3 conference mark.
In its most recent result, AU dropped a heartbreaker to No. 17
ranked Columbus State in the final minutes of regulation, 3-2. With
the setback, Anderson fell to 2-4-3 on the season. Sunday's match
begins a three-match conference stretch with two contests being on
the road.
Scoring goals on Tuesday were senior Krystal Goss and redshirt sophomore Faith Johannes who are tied for the team-lead in goals with three. Goss eclipsed the 30-shot mark against the Cougars, finishing the evening with two shots, both coming on goal. The senior currently leads the team in shots (30), points (9), shots on goal (15) and is tied for the team-lead in assists with freshman Madison Taylor with three.
In goal, senior Kaitlyn Neipp currently ranks second in the conference with 65 saves and third in the league in save percentage with a .855 mark. Her next victory will give her 20 wins for her four-year career.
The Pioneers
Tusculum is one of the four teams that is unbeaten in the SAC, as
the Pioneers hold a 2-0-1 record in the conference. With its 1-0
win over Wingate last Sunday, TC is currently on a three-match
winning streak and is unbeaten in its last four. In those last four
matchups, the Pioneers have not been scored on and have outscored
their opponents 8-0.
With 11 goals on the season, TC has had seven different goal scorers as senior Amy Neltner leads the team with three goals. Netler recorded the eventual game-winner against Wingate in the ninth minute of action from a senior Kenique Thombs pass. Thombs currently holds four points on the year which ties her for the third most on the team.
Junior goalkeeper Marissa Williams has seen all but a half of action this season, as she mirrors the team's overall record of 4-5-2. Williams leads the league in shutouts with five and is second with a 0.78 goals against average. The Canton, Mich. native is also third in the league in saves with 46.
The Series
Since joining the SAC in 2010, Anderson is 1-2-1 against Tusculum
with its only win coming in the 2011 regular season, as the Trojans
earned a 1-0 double-overtime victory. Later that season, the
Trojans faced the Pioneers in the opening round of the SAC
Tournament and eliminated TC on penalty kicks 2-0 after a scoreless
draw.
