Men's Track and Field Finishes Strong at LRU Home Opener

HICKORY, N.C. - The Anderson University men's track and field team completed their first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday (Feb. 27) at the Lenoir-Rhyne Opener. The Trojans were able to set personal best marks despite the poor weather conditions. 

On day one, Brandon Wilson set a personal best in the 1000m run with a time of 32:48.76. Conner Wheatley threw for a personal record in the shot put with a heave of 12.13m. Wheatley also performed well in the hammer throw, finishing in seventh place by recording a distance of 34.58m. Hunter Norman won the 400m hurdles by finishing with a time of 1:08.07. In the 500m run, Patrick Berlejung (15:33.18), Michael Burgess (15:54.34), and Philip Quillen (15:59.49) all finished in the Top 10. 

On day two, Philip Quillen finished in sixth place in the 4:06.88 in the 1500m run, and Zach Cannon recorded a time of 54.95 in the 400m dash. 

"I'm proud of the effort from our men this weekend," said coach Kevin Eagle. "They fought through the bad weather elements and recorded a lot of great marks."

The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 6) as they travel to Central, S.C. for the Susan Rouse Invitational. Live results can be found at www.autrojans.com
