Men's Track Has Strong Performance at CIU Rams Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. - On Saturday (Feb. 7) the Anderson University men's track and field team completed their first meet of 2021 at the CIU Invitational in Columbia, S.C. Head coach Kevin Eagle was proud of the team's performance than included several top 10 finishes and a win in the 5000m by Philip Quillen.

"Our men competed fearlessly today as we attained several top 10 marks amongst the different event groups," said Eagle. "Our main goal today was to simply compete, while testing to see what our current fitness is after taking months off from competition. I would say we achieved that while having some pleasant surprises along the way. After having this rust buster out of the way, the men are excited for the next time out."

The Trojans had a successful day one on Friday (Feb. 5) as Philip Quillen won the 5000m with a mark of 15:10.29. Daniel Similton came in third place by running a 15:30.98, with Brandon Wilson coming in seventh at 15:54.96.

On day two, Matthew Burgess and Philip Quillen both picked up top 10 finishes in the mile run by posting marks of 4:25.76 and 4:27.03, respectively. Meanwhile, Hunter Norman placed sixth in the 400m by running a 52.74. The Trojans had three more top 10 finishes in the 3000m courtesy of Patrick Berlejung (8:51.73), Jonathan Roberts (8:59.71), and Michael Burgess (9:00.38).

The Trojans will be back in action next Sunday (Feb. 14) for the LR Polar Bear Meet in Hickory, N.C. with live results available at www.autrojans.com.
