Quillen and Burgess Win Events at the LR Bears Open

HICKORY, N.C. – The Anderson University men's track and field team had a great afternoon at the LR Bears Open on Sunday (Mar. 21) as the Trojans won two events and set several personal best times.

Matthew Burgess won the 800m with a mark of 1:56.89, while Philip Quillen won the 5000m run with a time of 15:01.92. Brandon Wilson, Daniel Similton, and Jonathan Roberts each recorded top 10 finishes in the 5000m. Thomas Sutcliffe finished sixth in the 1500m (3:59.79), while Patrick Berlejung took 8th place (4:00.73).

Conner Wheatley had two top 10 finishes in the shot put (12.32m) and the discus thow (35.71m). Hunter Norman took eighth place in the 400m dash (51.99) and Zach Cannon finished 12th with a mark of 54.53.

"I am proud of how everyone on the team competed today," said coach Kevin Eagle. "Across the board, we had lots of great times including two event wins and several top ten finishes. We now have a few days off to prepare for our next meet."
