Women’s Soccer Signee to Compete in 2013 Deaf Olympics

ANDERSON, S.C. - Prior to arriving on Anderson's campus for preseason workouts in mid-August, incoming Trojan women's soccer freshman Madison Taylor, a member of the United States Women's National Deaf Team, will represent her country at the 2013 Deaf Olympics in Sophia, Bulgaria.

The summer marks the second consecutive trip to the event for Taylor, as she and her teammates will be looking to defend their World Cup title after claiming the championship a year ago in Ankara, Turkey, with the Americans defeating Russia's National Deaf squad to earn the title.

The USWNDT is made up of a number of high-quality players, the selection process is specific and the training regimen year-round across the country is rigorous in preparation for the summer games.

Taylor, also a member of the Orlando City Youth Soccer Association ECNL, one of north Florida's top-level club teams, is no stranger to success.

"Being a part of a state championship club team in Florida has prepared me for this intense environment," said Taylor.

The Deaf Olympics give players an opportunity to travel across the United States for training sessions, as well as around the country to compete for the U.S. In addition, many of the players spend time speaking with young children within the countries they travel.

"I enjoy playing for the USWNDT. I have the opportunity to travel to many places and play different competition around the world while sharing the game of soccer with so many people. I also get to be a great role model for other hearing-impaired kids, who share my passion of soccer, added Taylor."

"I am very excited for the distinguished honor Maddie has in representing the U.S. at the 2013 Deaf Olympics for the second year in a row," said Anderson head coach Samar Azem. "She's a very talented player and the experience is one that will not only help her as she continues to develop as a soccer player but as a young mature adult as well. We look forward to supporting both Maddie and the USWNDT through their journey this summer."

Taylor lettered at Orangewood Christian School where she was named First-Team All-District from 2009-2013, as well as the Florida All-Star South Team. Her Orlando City Youth Soccer squad also won the U-17 state championship.

The 2013 Deaf Olympics are scheduled for July 26-August 4.
