HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Anderson women's soccer team opened a brief two-match road swing by battling Lincoln Memorial to a scoreless 0-0 stalemate in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the LMU Soccer Field.
Anderson (4-3-2, 2-1-1 SAC), which was coming off a six-day
layoff, saw its defense record its sixth shutout of the season,
which is just two shy of the school record eight clean sheets set
last season. Lincoln Memorial, which had won three of its last four
entering the match, moved to 5-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the
league.
The Trojans held a 12-10 edge in shots, including a 6-1 advantage
in shots on goal, with three of the on-goal attempts coming in the
two extra periods. Anderson also doubled up the Railsplitters, 8-4,
in corner kicks.
AU junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Neipp recorded one save on the afternoon, while LMU keeper Kayla Hanson notched six saves, with both net-minders going the distance between the pipes.
Anderson visits Gulf South Conference-opponent Valdosta State on
Tuesday, with kick-off versus the Blazers slated for 7 p.m. The
Trojans edged VSU, 1-0, last season on the strength of AU's seventh
shutout.
