Trojans Down Brevard for Second Straight Conference Win

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson women's soccer team wrapped up its five-match homestand by topping Brevard, 2-1, on the strength of two early goals in South Atlantic Conference action Tuesday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

Anderson (6-7-1, 2-4 SAC) won its second straight conference contest and improved to 6-2 at home, while handing Brevard (3-9-1, 1-5 SAC) its fourth consecutive setback.

"We got another much-need win," said Anderson head coach Jason Dowiak. "We had some good possessions again today."

Sophomore Carrie Settle beat a Brevard defender then played a ball through to fellow sophomore Jessica Kleinberg, who put AU on the scoreboard in the eighth minute by lofting a left-footed shot over Tornados' keeper Crissy Moran for her second goal of the season.

The Trojan's Krystal Goss tallied the game-winning goal at the 15:51 mark when Moran was unable to control the 5-foot-5 midfielder's shot and the ball rolled into the net for her second game-winner of the season

The Tornados pulled within one on Caitlin Hibbard's score in the 31st minute as the Clayton, N.C., native's attempt from close range went just under the crossbar.

Brevard managed two more shots over the remainder of the half and outshot AU, 11-8 on the afternoon, but the Trojan defense held firm for the win. AU held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Anderson freshman keeper Kaitlin Neipp went the distance between the pipes, collecting six saves and earning the win, while Moran recorded four saves in the setback.

Anderson will get back on the pitch Saturday for the first of two straight road contests when the Trojans visit Tusculum College. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at TC's Niswonger Sports Complex/Pioneer Field.
