HICKORY, N.C. - Lenoir-Rhyne's Audrey Moore scored the lone goal of the night as the Bears edged past Anderson, 1-0, in women's soccer action Saturday night at the Irwin Belk Track.
The 5-5 senior midfielder bent in a corner kick in the 15th minute to give Lenoir-Rhyne (4-1, 1-0 SAC) the win past Anderson (3-3-1, 0-1 SAC) in the South Atlantic Conference opener for both teams.
"We showed a lot of heart in fighting to the final whistle," said Anderson head coach Jason Dowiak. "Marissa (Johnson) and Tori (Danielson) were excellent at center backs cleaning up all night."
Anderson was outshot 31-6 on the night and Lenoir-Rhyne held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore Adrienne Lough and freshman Krystal Goss each recorded two shots for the Trojans, with rookie Allie Waters and senior midfielder Katelyn Conover each registering a shot. Lenoir-Rhyne forward Laura Linehan notched a match-high eight shots and defender Amber Holt got off seven attempts.
Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlin Neipp recorded nine saves, but
suffered the loss, while LRC's Rebecca Ingram collected three saves
and earned the win.
The Trojans will be looking to get back in the win column as they
visit SAC opponent Newberry on Wednesday, with kick-off versus the
Wolves scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Newberry Soccer Field. AU enters
the contest with an 0-3-1 record in its last four contests, while
the Wolves will be looking for their first win of the 2010
campaign.
