ANDERSON, S.C. - Catawba junior forward Kristen Giradi scored the game's lone goal in the second minute of overtime to lift the Indians past Anderson, 1-0, in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.
Anderson fell to 4-6-1 overall and 0-4 in league play, while Catawba (5-1-2, 1-0-1 SAC) has not dropped a contest since suffering a season-opening setback to Belmont Abbey.
Both teams entered the contest searching for their first conference win, with Anderson looking to extend its home win streak to nine in its second match of a season-high five-match homestand.
The Indians outshot AU, 19-11 and corner kicks were even at six
apiece on the afternoon. Freshman Kaitlin Neipp suffered the loss
in goal for the Trojans, while Catawba's Kailey Johnson collected
the win. Both keepers recorded six saves in the contest.
Freshman Krystal Goss posted three shots for AU, with fellow
freshman Hayden Uldrick recording two. Catawba's Juliana Conte
notched a match-high four attempts and Alyssa Retundie and Giradi
each recorded three shots.
Anderson continues the homestand on Thursday when the Trojans welcome non-conference foe North Georgia to Trojan Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
