Second Half Proves Costly as Trojans Fall to Lady Eagles

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Senior midfielder Katelyn Conover tallied two goals but it wasn't enough as the Anderson women's soccer team closed out its six-match road swing with a 4-2 South Atlantic Conference setback to Carson-Newman Saturday afternoon at McCown Field.

Carson-Newman (3-4, 1-2 SAC) earned its first home win of the season on the strength of three second-half scores, while Anderson fell to 3-5-1 overall and 0-3 in league action.

The Lady Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute, as Andrea Saevik finished off a pass from Maleya Garrison in the box, but Anderson responded in the 44th minute when Jessica Kleinberg found Katelyn Conover for the senior's second tally of the season to knot the match at 1-1.

C-N took the lead for good coming out of the locker room when freshman Bianca Hall nudged a shot past Anderson goalkeeper Maddison McLendon to give the Lady Eagles a 2-1 advantage. Morgan Gruenenfelde was credited with the assist.

After C-N took advantage of an own goal by the Trojans in the 48th minute to build a 3-1 lead, Anderson pulled to within 3-2 on Conover's second goal of the contest in the 51st minute.

C-N put the game out of reach in the 81st minute, as Trenna Howell placed the ball in the back of the net to give the Lady Eagles a 4-2 cushion. Haley Julian and Gruenenfelder were credited with the assists.

Carson-Newman outshot the Trojans 26-6, with an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Lady Eagle goalkeeper Kyline Humm (Crystal Lake, Ill.) collected two saves in picking up the win, while McLendon grabbed seven saves for Anderson.

The Trojans return to the friendly confines of Trojan Stadium when rival Erskine invades for a Wednesday afternoon contest slated to get underway at 2 p.m. AU is a perfect 3-0 at home this season and will be looking to extend its home undefeated streak to nine matches.
