Cross Country Competes at Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Anderson women's cross country team finished second among non-Division I schools and the men's squad recorded a fifth-place finish among non-D-I schools in the Charlotte Invitational Friday afternoon at McAlpine Park. The AU women, who were paced by sophomore Whitney Bishoff's school-record 17:59.6, placed 16th overall in the 5k event. The Winder, Ga. native was second among D-II runners and 14th overall. Junior Lynne Flint (20.05.6) crossed the finish line in 97th, while fellow junior Chelsea Rogers (20:23.5) placed 114th. Freshmen Emily Eckroth ( 20:36.3) and Amanda Johnson (24:51.6) finished 128th and 198th , respectively. "The ladies ran really well on a fast course," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer. "Whitney's time has to be one of the fastest times ever in the conference." We finished strong." Anderson senior Alex Jordan's stellar performance in the men's 8k propelled the Trojans to a 14th-place finish overall, as he out-distanced all D-II runners with his 25:45.2 time. The Trojans' Nigel Reynolds (27:55.8), sophomore Jonathan Stephens (27:58.2) and freshman Alex Pena (28:07.3) all finished within 12 seconds of one another, crossing the line in 103rd, 105th and 108th respectively. Freshman Ryne Welch rounded out the scoring for AU, placing 173rd overall with a time of 31:41.9. Anderson returns to action next Saturday when the Trojans travel to Orlando, Fla. to compete in the 14th Annual WALT DISNEY WORLD® Cross Country Classic.
