Anderson Uses Depth To Take CVAC Title

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Anderson University placed five runners in the top 16 to edge St. Andrews Presbyterian by five points and take the 2006 CVAC men's cross country title Saturday morning at the Milliken Course. "Our men finally got one," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer, who was named CVAC Coach of the Year. "They have worked hard for it." St. Andrews placed four runners in the top six, but the fifth runner for the Knights finished 48th to leave the door open for the Trojans, who used a tighter pack to claim the championship. Anderson was led by Nate Parsons, who finished second in the 8K event with a time of 26:16. Following Parsons for Anderson were Jason Bryan (11th, 27:19), Jeremy Hunsaker (12th, 27:23), Ethan Schaffner (15th, 27:29), and Alex Jordan (16th, 27:31). Anderson finished first with 56 points. St. Andrews was second with 61 points. Coker finished third with 68 points, and Lees-McRae was fourth with 87 points. Parsons was named to the All-CVAC first team, while Bryan, Hunsaker, and Schaffner all were named honorable mention. Mitch Cooper of St. Andrews won the individual title with a time of 26:07.
