Lady Trojans Win CVAC Cross Country Title

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Anderson University placed four runners in the top eight to win the 2006 CVAC Cross Country Championship meet Saturday morning at the Milliken Course. The title was the third for the Anderson women since 2002. Anderson finished with 49 points, 19 points ahead of second-place Lees-McRae. St. Andrews Presbyterian was third with 78 points, and Queens University of Charlotte was fourth with 96 points. Anderson's Jennifer Hitt won her third straight CVAC individual title with a time of 19:23 in the 5K event. Hitt, a junior from Fountain Inn, S.C., also was named CVAC Runner of the Year for the third straight season. Following Hitt for Anderson were Kasey Harold (4th, 19:46), Diana Willard (6th, 19:58), Megan Deaton (8th, 20:16), and Ashten Guffee (30th, 21:42). "Our women performed well," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer, who was named CVAC Coach of the Year. "This was the first race this season that we were injury free." Hitt and Harold both were named first-team All-CVAC, while Willard and Deaton made the second team.
