Spain Vaughan Qualifies for Mile Run Finals in Day One of SAC Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Anderson University men's track and field team completed day one of the SAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Saturday, Feb. 26.

Freshman Spain Vaughan highlighted day one for the Trojans by turning in a qualifying time of 4:21.12 in the mile run. Daniel Similton (4:22.31) and Thomas Sutcliffe (4:22.95) narrowly missed qualification for the finals. In the 5000m, Philip Quillen broke the previous meet record of 14:58.74 with a time of 14:39.20 to finish in 8th place.

The men's DMR team of Patrick Berlejung, Ben Molitor, Thomas Sutcliffe, and Spain Vaughan finished fifth in a time of 10:31.67. In the field, freshman Simeon Respress recorded a top-ten finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.63m. Zach Cannon and Hunter Norman completed day one of the heptathlon with 1807 and 1379 points, respectively.

Day Two of the SAC Indoor Track and Field Championships will start on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. with the men's heptathlon 60m hurdles. Live results can be found at www.autrojans.com.
