Men's Track and Field Sets Several Personal Bests at Gamecock Opener

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's track and field team completed the Gamecock Opener on Saturday (Jan. 15) with several personal best finishes.

Philip Quillen led the way for the Trojans in the 3000m by completing the event in 8:37.64 for a fourth-place finish. Daniel Similton (8:49.74) and Jonathan Roberts (8:55.60), finished in seventh and eighth respectively to record top-10 times. Ty Nelson also ran well for Anderson at 9:06.92, coming in 11th place.

Spain Vaughan recorded a 4:21.75 in the one mile run to come in ninth place, meanwhile Thomas Sutcliffe was not far behind at 4:24.87 to finish 12th.

Simeon Respress impressed in the field for the Trojans, who narrowly missed the high jump school record by three centimeters with a mark of 1.93m. Respress was just seven centimeters short of the long jump record as he finished seventh with a distance of 6.85m. Grayson Smith completed the shot put at 10.02m.

"It was great to see the team return the competition this weekend," said coach Kevin Eagle. "We had several personal bests, including freshman Simeon Respress who missed the high jump school record by 3cm, and the long jump school record by 7cm. He has progressed so much since the last time we competed in December. This men's team has a lot of upside if we can put it all together!"

The Trojans will be back in action on Friday (Jan. 28) as they travel back to Columbia, S.C. for the South Carolina Invitational. Live results can be found at www.autrojans.com.
