Sohrweide Earns First Team All-America Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Anderson University junior standout Lasse Sohrweide has been named to the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II Men's Soccer All-America First Team as announced by the organization early Thursday morning.

Sohrweide, a 6-foot midfielder, earlier was named the Southeast Region Player of The Year, South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and SAC Conference Tournament MVP after notching a hat trick to lead the team to the conference tournament title.

The Flensburg, Germany, native was a first-team Daktronics All-Region honoree last season and led the South Atlantic Conference in points (45), points per game (2.00), goals (18), goals per game, assists (12) and tied for first in the league with seven game-winners on the season. Sohrweide ranked third nationally in total points, fourth in 4th in both goals and assists and 13th in points per game.

Anderson earned its second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament last month, falling just shy of a berth in the Elite Eight after upsetting the Southeast Region's top-seed and ninth-ranked Montevallo on the Falcon's home pitch to reach the Sweet 16.
AU (15-6-2, 6-3 SAC) won five of its last six matches and 12 of its final 14 outings to set a new school record for wins in a season, while posting an impressive 9-1 record in its inaugural season at the new Trojan Stadium.
Senior forward Steven Beattie of Northern Kentucky University was named the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year. Beattie, of Skerries, Ireland, is a three-time first team selection. He has scored 24 goals and 64 points while leading Northern Kentucky to the national semifinals.

Senior goalkeeper Raul Herrera of Midwestern State (Texas) University and sophomore forward Kyle Ciliento of Grand Canyon (Ariz.) University are repeat first team selections. Herrera helped lead Midwestern State the national semifinals with a 19-0-2 record. Ciliento, the Daktronics West Regional Player of the Year, posted 25 goals and 55 points.

Freshman Tesho Akindale of Colorado School of Mines and senior Gibson Bardsley of Western Washington University are the other two first team forwards. Akindale collected 19 goals and 45 points. Bardsley finished with 18 goals and 43 points.

Senior Steven Emory of Metro State (Colo.) University leads the list of first team midfielders. He was the Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year and an All-America second team selection in 2009. Junior Chike Sullivan of Colorado School of Mines and junior Nathan Fitzgerald of Midwestern State round out the other first team midfielders.

Junior defender Ryan Spence is the third player from Midwestern State to earn a spot on the first team. The remaining first team defenders are junior Tom Reilly of Franklin Pierce (N.H.) University, junior Vladimir Milosavljevic of national semifinalist Dowling (N.Y.) University and sophomore Thomas Biddinger of national semifinalist Rollins (Fla.) University.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences sponsoring men's soccer selected the Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first team All-Region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the fifth year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II men's soccer All-America and All-Region teams.
