Sohrweide Named Player of the Week

ANDERSON, S.C. - After scoring three goals and recording an assist for seven points in two contests on the week, Anderson junior standout Lasse Sohrweide has been named the South Atlantic Conference's men's soccer Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

Sohrweide helped lead AU to a pair of conference wins as the Trojans defeated Newberry 3-1, last Wednesday, then celebrated Homecoming by pushing past Lincoln Memorial by an identical count of 3-1 on Saturday.

"Lasse had a great week," Anderson head coach Rob Miller. "He struggled a little early in the season, but he's been focused and he's had a great attitude."

The 6-foot midfielder gave AU an early 1-0 lead at Newberry in the 10th minute of action, finding the back of the net with his ninth score of the season. He tallied an assist on the game-winning goal just a minute later against the Wolves by getting the ball to Zach Denson off a corner kick from Adrien Moufflet.

The native of Flensburg, Germany, scored two goals, including his third game-winner of the season in the senior day win past LMU. With 27:01 to play, Sohrweirde scored on a penalty kick to give AU a 1-0 lead, then notched his second goal of the afternoon by squeezing a shot into the frame just off the right post to give the Trojans a 2-1 advantage.

Sohrweide is tied for the team lead with 11 goals on the season and leads the Trojans with nine assists for a team-high 31 points. He ranks second in the league and 16th in the nation in total points and sixth nationally in total assists.

On the strength of their seven-match win streak, the Trojans improved to 11-4-1 overall, including 8-1 at home, and 6-2 in the league. AU visits Wingate on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match.
