ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson's men's golf team continues its spring season next week (Feb. 26-27) competing at the Spring Bulldog Clash at the Caledonia Gold and Fish Club in Pawley's Island, South Carolina. The Trojans will shoot for 36 holes on Monday, followed by 18 on Tuesday.
Anderson is joined in the field by seven Top-25 teams: No. 1 North Georgia, No. 5 USC Aiken, No. 11 Lander, No. 17 Columbus State, No. 21 Coker, No. 22 Lenior-Rhyne and No. 23 Barton. The slate also includes Rogers State, Limestone, Belmont Abbey, Erskine, King, Wingate, Newberry, Catawba, Tusculum, Emmanuel, Davenport, Chowan, Shorter and Mount Olive.
AU will be represented by junior Simon Wright (Lancaster, S.C.), freshman Sam McMillan (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), junior Sam Norris (Mauldin, S.C.), fifth-year Jamie Markwick (Bishop's Waltham, Eng.) and senior Daniel Coker (Harstville, S.C.).
Wright has a 73.7-stroke average on the year and shot a round of 71(E) in the third round of the Cateechee Fall Invite to help the Trojans ascend the leaderboard with a final round of 284(E). Wright also led the Trojans and finished T-23rd in the field at the LMU Spring Kickoff, shooting 75-72-76.
McMillan averages 73.0 and has carded six rounds of 73 or better. His best performances include a program record-tying 63(-8) round at the Cateechee Fall Invite, where he finished T-13th at (-3) in the field, and a round of 68(-4) at the McCoy Wright Collegiate, where he finished 26th.
Norris notched a 72(E) in the second round of the UNG Mizuno Intercollegiate. He has carded two rounds of 73 or better this season and averages 74.8.
Markwick has a stroke average of 74.3, firing a final round of 70(-2) at the Hurricane Invitational.
Coker, who averages 74.5, carded a round of 72(E) in the first round of the Bearcat Fall Classic. He also shot a 54-hole total of 218(+2) at the Cateechee Fall Invite for a 37th-place finish, followed by a 54-hole total of 223(+7) to finished 30th at the Hurrican Invitational.
Following this weekend at Pawley's Island, the Trojans have a quick turnaround, competing in the Lander Bearcat Classic in Greenwood on March 4-5.
