Trojans Take Tenth Place at Hurricane Invitational

ALBANY, Ga. – Taking part in their penultimate fall tournament, the Anderson University men's golf team took home a tenth-place finish as a team at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by Georgia Southwestern at the Doublegate Country Club on October 16-17.

The host team was able to take home the tournament trophy at then end of the week, posting a three-over score as a team. Anderson finished the week +35.

"We had the opportunity to play in another great event this week at a great venue. It was definitely the toughest course conditions we have seen this season so far," said head coach Austin Castles. "The greens were firm and the wind was howling and swirling especially for Monday's 36-hole day. It was a great test of golf for the guys."

Senior Daniel Coker (Hartsville, S.C.) and freshman Luke Sullivan (Columbia, S.C.) each finished tied for 30th on the leader board for the week. Coker shot rounds of 72-75-76 while Sullivan carded rounds of 72-76-75.

"Daniel and Luke were both huge for us this week and really hung in there and fought hard."

Senior Jamie Markwick (Bishop's Waltham, England) improved every round throughout the week, including firing a team-best two-under round on Tuesday. He finished tied for 46th with rounds of 81-76-70. Freshman Sam McMillan (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) finished in a tie for 50th in the tournament, staying consistent throughout the week carding rounds of 75-77-76.

"Jamie played a wonder round of golf in the third round. His two-under par was the second lowest round shot on Tuesday."

Freshman Can Gürdenli (Istanbul, Turkey) turned in a 68th place finish to wrap up the five scorers for the Trojans while sophomore Sam Norris (Simpsonville, S.C.) finished tied for 56th as an individual in the tournament.

"Overall we have a lot of work to do to get to where we want to be but I truly saw a lot of positives this week. We will keep building!"

The Trojans wrap up their fall season as they host the Currahee Collegiate at the Currahee Golf Club on October 23-24.
