No. 9 Trojans Take 15th at Season Opening Bearcat Fall Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Wrapping up their first action of the fall season, the nationally ninth-ranked Anderson University men's golf team turned in a 15th place showing at the Bearcat Fall Invitational hosted by Lander University at the Forest Hills Golf Club on September 11-12.

"We didn't play our best golf this week," commented head men's coach Austin Castles. "We made some costly mistakes that resulted in a lot of dropped shots. However, I also saw a lot of really good things the week."

Freshman Can Gürdenli (Istanbul, Turkey) turned in the best performance on the week for the Trojans as he was able to finish just four-over for the tournament after shooting a 77 in the final round of action. Junior Simon Wright (Lancaster, S.C.) maintained his consistency throughout the week as he shot just one stroke off his two rounds yesterday to card a 75 in the final round. The finished 49th and 60th in the tournament.

Also taking home a 60th place finish was freshman Luke Sullivan (Columbia, S.C.) who sandwiched even-par rounds against his 79 in the second round. Freshman Sam McMillan (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) was also able to lower his score from the second round and shoot a three-over 75 in the final round of action to wrap up a 68th place finish. Senior Daniel Coker (Hartsville, S.C.) rounded out the tournament with a 76 to finish in a tie for 88th.

"We have some really talented young guys that showed signs of great things to come and some veteran guys that have the experience and know what it's like to compete at the national level. This will be huge as we continue through the fall and into the championship season. Good things to come."

The Trojans return to action next week as they travel to Gainesville, Ga. to take part in the Mizuno Intercollegiate at the Chattahoochee Golf Club.
