ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson baseball team recorded a season-high 19 hits as the Trojans defeated visiting Truett-McConell, 15-9, in non-conference action Monday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium. The two teams lit up the scoreboard for a combined 33 hits on the night, with at least one team sending a runner across the plate in every inning. Anderson (15-28) took the lead for good behind a three-run fifth inning on the strength of freshman Tony Price's first home run of the season that scored both Ryan Saxon and Ryan Kirkland. The Trojans grabbed an early 1-0 edge when Saxon lifted a one-out sacrifice fly to left that brought home teammate Chance Thomas in the first inning, but the lead was short-lived as Truett-McConnell (17-15) answered with four runs of its own. Anderson answered to even the score at 4-4 after two innings, as the Trojans posted a walk, three consecutive singles and a sacrifice fly. The Bears regained the advantage with a solo run in the third frame and three more in the fourth to double up AU, 8-4, but no lead was safe as AU responded with a pair of runs when sophomore Bobby Roper recorded a clutch two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the inning to pull Anderson within 8-6 after four innings and setting the stage for Price's round-tripper. The Trojans opened an 11-8 lead with two more runs in the sixth and added a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. Justin Rogers recorded his first win of the 2010 campaign after scattering five hits and giving up two runs in four innings of relief. Roy Frick and Jordan Oates combined to hold the Bears scoreless over the final two innings. AU catcher Brett Scarberry finished the night 3-for-4 with three runs scored, as senior Derek Hipp added three hits and Price collected four RBI. Anderson continues the homestand when the Trojans welcome Georgia College and State University to Memorial Stadium Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference contest slated to start at 5 p.m. Box Score Season Statistics
