ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson baseball team scored six runs in the final four innings, but it wasn't enough as visiting Carson-Newman scored early and held off the Trojans' rally for a 1066 win, Tuesday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Carson-Newman (11-6) notched a solo run in the second inning and a pair of runs in both the third and fourth to gain a 5-0 advantage before adding another score and two in the sixth en route to a 8-0 lead before the Anderson (8-15) bats came alive in the sixth. Rightfielder Ryan Kirkland led off the frame with just the second hit of the afternoon for the Trojans - a double to left - and came around to score one out later on senior Trent Still's single to right. Sophomore Blake May followed Still's single with a sacrifice fly that plated Ryan Saxon after the second baseman was hit by a pitch and moved up on Still's base hit. Anderson held Carson-Newman scoreless in the seventh, but the Eagles added a pair of runs in the top of the eighth to push their lead to 10-2 with just six outs remaining for AU. Anderson made the most of its at-bat in the eighth by sending nine men to the plate, with four of them scoring. Four Trojans recorded hits before Carson-Newman collected an out, as Matt Hill and Saxon opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Still came up with his second hit of the afternoon, a double to right that scored a run and May ripped a double to left that scored two more. Shortstop Thomas Padro added a two-out RBI that plated May, but was stranded at second to close the inning and the scoring for AU. Anderson has little time to rest as the Trojans open an 11-game road swing by visiting Brevard Wednesday afternoon, with first-pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Box Score Season Statistics
