Women's Cross Country Finishes Third at Queen City Invite

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Anderson University women's cross-country team finished third in the Queen City Invite on Friday (Sept. 23) with a total team time of 1:34:47, an average time of 18:57, and a score of 87.

Whitney Hanson led the way for the Trojans with a time of 18:35, finishing in 18th. Jodi Ann Martin (18:56) and Elise Matthews (18:57) each finished in 23rd and 24th respectively. Emily Golden came in 29th in a time of 19:08, with freshman Emma Whitaker close behind at 19:11. Rebecca Ward (19:21), Lucy Schmitt (19:21), and Sarah Rudolph (19:24) ran in a pack to finish 34th, 35th, and 36th respectively. Alysse Rowland (19:28) and Hagan Wilson (19:35) each finished inside the top-50 at 41st and 45th.

"Our women did not necessarily have a great race as a whole, but some runners were able to walk away with huge lifetime personal bests," said coach Kevin Eagle. "We know we are in the middle of a hard training block, so we just have to understand the times today are not indicative of where we really are fitness wise."

The Trojans will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 7) when they return to Charlotte, N.C. for the Royals Challenge. Results can be found at www.autrojans.com.
