Women's Cross Country Wins Converse Kick-Off Classic

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Anderson University women's cross country team opened up the 2022 season in Spartanburg, S.C. at Milliken Research Park by winning the Converse Kick-Off Classic with a score of 35, and a total team time of 1:55:08.

A total of five Trojans finished inside the top-10, and eight of the top-15. Freshman Emma Whitaker led the way for Anderson with a time of 22:39.4 for fourth place, while Whitney Hanson was close behind for fifth place at 22:52.2. Jodi Ann Martin paced at 23:01.8 for seventh place. Faith Nelson (23:14.4), Emily Golden (23:20.3), and Elise Matthews (23:20.8) ran as a pack to finish ninth, 10th, and 11th respectively.

Freshmen Sarah Rudolph (23:53.7) and Lucy Schmitt (23:54.2) ran together for 14th and 15th. Hagan Wilson (24:34.1), Rebecca Ward (24:56.9), Alysse Rowland (25:06.6), Madison Crumley (25:08.2), Hannah Reedy (25:58.8), and Mclayne Wyatt (26:15.3) also ran for the Trojans.

"The women ran well as a pack and won the meet by displaying great depth," said coach Kevin Eagle. "This race showed us what we can work on for the next time out, but I am really pleased with our race plan execution today!"

The Trojans will be back in action on Friday (Sept. 23) as they travel to Charlotte, N.C. for the Queen City Invite. Results can be found at www.autrojans.com.
