Women’s Tennis Shuts Out Converse

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Anderson University women's tennis team claimed its second shutout in as many days by blanking Converse, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon.

Anderson improved to 11-5 on the season, while Converse fell to 3-17.

The Trojans did not drop a set to the Valkyries, with the tandem of Karen Ching and Avery Owens claiming their fourth straight win by downing Converse's Olivia Self and Kasey Anderson, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.

Ching went on to win her third consecutive singles' match with a straight-set, 6-1, 6-0, victory past Self at the No. 1 singles' flight. Lindsay Gregory claimed her third straight singles' win by defeating Marisa Esformes, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles, while also improving to 8-2 in her last 10 outings. Avery Owens improved to 10-1 in her last 11 matches with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kasey Anderson at the No. 2 singles' slot.

Anderson opens the South Atlantic Conference Tournament as the third seed and will face No. 6 seeded Lincoln Memorial on Thursday in Rock Hill, S.C. First-serve versus the Lady Railsplitters is slated for 1 p.m.
