ANDERSON, S.C. - No. 49-ranked Wingate remained unbeaten in the South Atlantic Conference with a 7-2 win past Anderson in women's tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.
Anderson (9-4, 7-2 SAC) wrapped up its league slate and had its two-match win streak halted, while Wingate (13-5, 8 SAC) claimed its sixth consecutive win.
Four Wingate student-athletes won two matches each, led by junior Morgan Winston. In singles, Winston defeated AU senior Camie Beaulieu-Brunet, 6-1, 6-3 at the number three position. Earlier in the day, Winston paired with senior Kelli Ferguson to take an 8-6 number two doubles victory over Anderson sophomore Lindsay Gregory and freshman Hannah Ecleberry.
Ferguson defeated Gregory 6-0, 7-5 at the number five singles flight. Both senior Helen Goreski and sophomore Tiffany Williams earned two triumphs each. They teamed to defeat Beaulieu-Brunet and freshman Alexandra Ebner 8-4 at the number three doubles slot.
Williams defeated Ecleberry 6-2, 3-6, (10-8) at the number four singles position. Goreski rallied to top AU junior Lauren Trumbull, 3-6, 6-4, (10-9) at the number six singles flight.
Bulldog sophomore Becca Thomas collected Wingate's other point with a default victory over Anderson sophomore Karen Ching at the number two singles flight.
Ching and Avery Owens improved to 8-1 overall by defeating Thomas and Ali Evers, 8-6, at the No. 1 doubles flight, with Owens moving to 9-0 in SAC singles action with a 6-4, 7-5 win past Evers at No. 1 singles.
Anderson will wrap up its home schedule on Friday, April 8, by playing host to Erskine. First-serve is slated for 3:30 p.m. at the Max Grubbs Courts.
