Women’s Tennis Sets the Pace for Academic Excellence

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson women's tennis team has been named the recipient of the Dr. Shirley Jacks Academic Excellence Award, which is presented by the Anderson University Athletics Department to the team that possesses the highest grade point average for each semester.

The squad claimed the honor after wrapping up the fall semester of 2012 with an impressive team grade point average of 3.58, and was recognized at halftime of the men's basketball contest versus Newberry.

The award - a silver Trojan helmet - is given in honor of Dr. Jacks, a longtime supporter of AU athletics and was presented to the tennis team by the volleyball squad, which earned the award last semester with a team grade point average of 3.57.

The Trojans open the season on Saturday, Feb. 2, by playing host to Coker at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts and will be looking to build on the momentum generated by last year's stellar South Atlantic Conference efforts. Second team all-conference members Avery Owens and Camie Beaulieu-Brunet helped lead the Trojans to a share of the South Atlantic Conference regular-season title with a sparkling 8-1 record.
