ANDERSON, S.C. - Playing for the first time in more than two weeks, the Anderson women's tennis team opened a stretch of five matches in 12 days by shutting down Carson-Newman, 9-0, in South Atlantic Conference action Tuesday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.
Anderson (7-5, 5-0 SAC) claimed its second win in the last three matches and remained perfect in the league, while Carson-Newman slipped to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
The Trojans swept through the doubles' slate by identical 8-2 scores, as the AU duo of Camie Beaulieu-Brunet and Shelby Anderson defeated Carson-Newman's Jennifer Ott and Erin Green, 8-2, at No. 1, while the Trojan freshman tandem of Lindsay Gregory and Clair Larkin improved to 7-3 on the season by rolling past Katie Brown and Devon Jennings, 8-2, at the No. 2 slot. Sophomores Avery Owens and Lauren Trumbull moved to 7-2 on the season, teaming up to top the Eagles' Tiffany Delias and Stefy Stand, 8-2, at No. 3.
Anderson did not drop a set en route to also sweeping singles'
action, with Trumbull claiming her seventh win in the last 10
matches by defeating Delias 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 and Gregory improving
to 7-2 over her last nine matches with a straight-set 6-1, 6-1 win
over Jennings at No. 5.
Anderson has little time to rest, as the Trojans visit Augusta
State on Wednesday. First-serve versus the Jaguars is scheduled for
2 p.m.
