Women’s Tennis Claims Share of SAC Regular-Season Title

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University women's tennis team earned a share of the South Atlantic Conference regular-season title, finishing the league slate tied with Wingate with a stellar 8-1 conference record.

The Bulldogs, however, earned the SAC Championship's No. 1 seed based on their head-to-head, 8-1, win over Anderson earlier this season.

Anderson (11-8, 8-1 SAC) is just one win away from equaling last season's overall 12-win mark and has surpassed last season's conference tally of 6-3 and fifth-place league finish.

Freshman Lindsay Gregory paced the Trojans with 12 wins on the singles' side, while posting an outstanding 8-1 mark in conference play. Sophomore Lauren Trumbull earned 11 victories during the regular season and also notched an 8-1 SAC record. Senior Shelby Anderson garnered 10 singles' wins during her final campaign.

The duo of Trumbull and sophomore Avery Owens led AU on the doubles' side by collecting eight wins overall and going 3-0 in league action. The tandem won seven of their last 10 matches together. The pairing of Gregory and fellow newcomer Clair Larkin saw the two post a 6-2 record in the SAC.

After earning the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the tourney, Anderson opens play in Friday's semifinal round of the Food Lion SAC Tournament versus the winner of the No. 3 Tusculum/No. 6 LMU contest. First-serve is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday.
