ANDERSON, S.C.-Anderson University senior Julie Halbert has been named the South Atlantic Conference women's tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
Halbert helped lead the team to a perfect 3-0 record last week as the Trojans earned convincing wins past Division I opponent USC Upstate (6-1), conference-foe Catawba (7-2) and Peach Belt opponent USC Aiken (5-1). AU improved to 4-1 overall on the season, including 2-0 in the SAC.
The native of Cesson Sevigne, France, boasted a perfect slate on
the week, garnering three singles' wins from her number three
position in addition to a pair of victories on the doubles' side
without dropping a set, improving to a team-leading 4-1 on the
season. She defeated Upstate's Catherine Estupian, 6-1, 6-0, then
topped the Indian's Maggie McKee, 6-0, 6-3, and teamed with Marcela
Gallegos to knock off McKee and Hannah Kovach, 8-3. Halbert closed
the week by picking up a singles' win past Aiken's Andrea Cediel,
6-0, 6-2 and again teamed with Gallegos for an 8-5 win in doubles.
The squad's lone setback this season came earlier on the road at
No. 1-ranked Armstrong Atlantic.
