Women’s Tennis Completes Play at USC Upstate’s Fall Classic

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson women's tennis team closed out play at the USC Upstate Fall Classic at the Upstate Tennis Complex on Sunday with a trio of Trojans collecting wins on the weekend.

Both Emily Weiland and Lauren Smith advanced to the second round in singles 'C', but both Trojans fell in straight sets on Saturday. Weiland, a Sumter, S.C., native defeated USC Aiken's Caitlyn Lawrence 6-3, 6-0 and Smith topped USCA's Courtney Hall 6-1, 6-0 on Friday.

But Weiland dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to eventual champion Mackenzie Swindall of Kennesaw State on Saturday, while Smith fell 6-2, 6-4 to Presbyterian's Julie Fontaine.

On the doubles' side, Weiland and Julie Halbert claimed a decisive 8-2 win over USC Aiken's Schneider and Hall before on Friday before suffering an 8-3 setback to Augusta State's Camila Correa and Lissa Murakami.

The Trojans play host to Emmanuel College at 2 p.m. at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.
