NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Anderson women's tennis team opened its 2011 spring season by blanking South Atlantic Conference opponent Newberry, 9-0, Saturday afternoon at the Wolves' Cannon Courts.
Anderson's Camie Beaulieu-Brunet and Shelby Andeson teamed up to defeat NC's Marina Ziehe and Amanda Simmons, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, while the Trojan duo of Lauren Trumbull and Avery Owens blanked the Wolves' Sierra Hoover and Stephanie Matthews, 8-0, at the No. 2 slot. AU's Marcela Gallegos and Julie Halbert collected a win by default at No. 3 doubles.
In singles' action, Beaulieu-Brunet held off Marina Ziehe 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1, while Owens shut out Simmons 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 slot. Halbert rolled past Lindsay Kyzer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and Lauren Trumbull eased past Matthews 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot.
Shelby Anderson defeated Newberry's Sierra Hoover 6-1, 6-0 and
AU's Emily Weiland close out the scoring by the Trojans by picking
up a win by default at No 6.
The Trojans visit Armstrong Atlantic on Sunday afternoon.
