SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Anderson University women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 1-ranked and three-time defending D-II national champion Armstrong Atlantic Sunday afternoon at Bacon Park.
The Trojans (1-1) were able to garner one doubles point as the Lady Pirates (1-0) swept the doubles matches. Camie Beaulieu-Brunet and Shelby Anderson dropped an 8-0 decision to the top-ranked duo of Alida Muller-Wehlau and Barbora Krtickova at No. 1 doubles, while AASU's Aleksandra Filipovski and Joanna Szymczyk defeated Avery Owens and Lauren Trumbull, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles. Kathleen Henry and Tina Ronel completed the doubles sweep with an 8-0 win over Julie Halbert and Marcela Gallegos 8-0.
On the singles side, the Lady Pirates picked up straight set wins in the six singles matches. Top-ranked Muller-Wehlau defeated Brunet, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while eighth-ranked Krtickova claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win over Owens at No. 2 singles. Filipovski notched a 6-1, 6-2 win over Halbert at No. 3 singles while Ronel beat Trumbull, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.
No. 25-ranked Henry beat Anderson, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles and Jessica Gardefjord claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Emily Weiland at No. 6 singles.
Anderson will get back on the courts Wednesday at Division I opponent USC Upstate. First-serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
