Women’s Tennis Blanks Emmanuel College

ANDERSON, S.C. - Freshman Avery Owens notched the first "golden set" in recent school history by winning 24 consecutive points to help lead the Anderson women's tennis team past visiting Emmanuel College, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.

Camie Beaulieu-Brunet and Shelby Anderson posted an 8-1 win past the Lions' Christianne Tetley and Kristin Porterfield at No. 1 doubles, while the Trojan duo of Marcela Gallegos and Lauren Trumbull defeated EC's Rachel Gregory and Olivia Gish, 8-2, at the No. 2 spot. Julie Halbert and Owens blanked Erica Fortson and Julia Sexton, 8-0, to close out doubles' action.

At No. 1 singles, Beaulieu-Brunet handed Tetley a straight-set, 6-2, 6-4 setback with Gallegos defeating Gregory, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and Trumbull winning, 6-0, 6-2, past the Lions' Gish at No. 3.

Anderson recorded a 6-0, 6-0 shutout past Porterfield and Halbert took down Fortson by a count of 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, with Owens posting her perfect match at No. 6.

The Trojans get back on the courts Friday by competing in the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional hosted by Francis Marion in Sumter, S.C.
