Wingate, N.C.- The Anderson Trojans fell to the No. 10 Wingate Bulldogs on a rainy Saturday afternoon 13-6. Despite an even scoring second half, the Trojans were unable to overcome the seven-goal deficit in the first half.
The Trojans entered Saturday's game 8-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play after having a nine-day break in their schedule. They move to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in the SAC. With their victory this afternoon, the Bulldogs continued their win-streak extending it to eight with a 12-2 overall record while remaining undefeated in conference play (8-0).
How it Happened
Wingate came out strong scoring the first four goals of the game until Cassidy Jones scored off an assist from Alicia Cannon just about halfway through the first quarter. The Bulldogs would score four more goals with Cannon notching just one more for the Trojans. Wingate led 7-2 after the first period.
The second quarter opened with a Wingate free position goal before Gwen Ontiveros scored off a pass from Cannon. The Bulldogs scored two more to add to their lead 10-3 heading into halftime.
Hannah Thomas opened the third period with two goals, the first coming off an assist from Ontiveros while the second she scored unassisted. Wingate answered with two goals of their own. After tying 2-2 in the third period, the Bulldogs led the Trojans 12-5 heading in the final quarter.
Play slowed in the final period as the first goal did not come until 11 minutes into the quarter. The Trojans and Bulldogs tied again in the fourth period 1-1 with Alicia scoring unassisted and Wingate notching their final goal with under two minutes to play. The Bulldogs topped the Trojans 13-6.
