Trojans Dominate in Victory Over Valkyries

Anderson, S.C.- The Anderson women's lacrosse team beat Converse by 24 (28-4) in its largest win margin of the season. Their dominant effort on offense recorded seven different players scoring, seven assists, and 8 goals off free position shots.

The Trojans came out strong from the first draw taking an early 5-0 lead less than five minutes into the game. Converse scored three goals in the first quarter before being shut out in the second period. AU scored from the first minute to the last minute of the second period maintaining control as they headed into halftime up 18-3.

A strong Trojan defense shut out the Valkyries in quarter three while Hannah Thomas, Laine Stanton, and Gwen Ontiveros scored for the Trojans stretching their lead to 19.

Anderson scored six more in the fourth quarter while Converse netted one unassisted by Brenna Everette. Hanna Thomas, Alicia Cannon, Grace Van Dinter, Katy Snyder, and Lili Bouwma all converted for the Trojans sealing their 28-4 victory.

Head coach Gail Wallach said, "After coming off a tough loss, we focused on our energy, effort, and what we do best as a team. We worked on that at practice, and it paid off."

Inside the Box

Alicia Cannon had eight goals while adding one assist, one groundball, and 11 draw controls.

Gwen Ontiveros netted eight goals, contributed one assist, and won three draw controls.

Hannah Thomas scored seven goals for the Trojans and picked up one ground ball.

Kora Turner and Ava Drath each recorded six saves for the Trojans between the posts holding the Valkyries to just four goals on the night.

Trojans beat Valkyries 13-3 on groundballs and out shot them 41-18.

The Trojans play their first conference game on Saturday when they host the Coker University Cobras at Spero Financial Field. First draw is set for 4 p.m.
